Refuse to be a victim

What will you do when that “it won’t happen to me” moment happens? Too often I hear, “There’s nothing I can do but pray.”

That’s just not true.

Self-defense as practiced by martial artists is tried and true for people of all types, temperments, sizes, and shapes.

For the frum world there’s one major problem: no martial arts schools offer separate gender classes.

Frum Fit To Fight aims to change that unfortunate fact.

Here’s what we’re about:

Frum Fit to Fight teaches the fighting spirit of Frontline Krav Maga so you have a Fighting Chance. It’s not for everyone, but it is for you. 

Classes are separated by gender to stay within halachic boundaries of modesty. This does not preclude the women and girls from training just as hardcore as the men and boys. Our instructors will teach military speed and military style so that our students will have street ready instincts to defend themselves or their loved ones. 

My wife Mashie (Marni) and I started Frum Fit to Fight for many reasons: Mumbai, Leiby Kletzky, Toulouse, the prevalence of local violent crime. . . Unfortunately, the list can go on. With a dearth of emphasis on fitness and too few resources for or access to self-defense training within Orthodox Jewish communities, we see it as a responsibility to make this training available in an appropriate, tznius atmosphere that emphasizes the need for situational awareness, self-defense/offense skills, and fitness. Although modesty is of the utmost importance, students will come to understand that all bets are off when it comes to saving their own lives or the lives of those they love. 

Classes for men, women, and children will be fun and intense, but students will go at their own pace. Because instruction will be based on the Frontline Krav Maga and Fighting Chance Programs curricula, over time students will learn essential self defense techniques: how to stand and move, how and where to strike, how escape from typical grabs and chokes, how to function under stress and pressure, dealing with multiple attackers, close range gun defense, knife defense, stick defense, and ground defense. While learning these techniques, students will get a work out. Part of the curriculum will include core strengthening and increasing flexibility. Most important of all, our students will learn to have situational awareness and a sharp mind under stress and fatigue, key components of the psychology of surviving violent situations. 

Every class session begins with a brief introduction to the key concepts of the day. After a brief warm up, training begins and maintains a high intensity until the end. After a cool down, the class lines up, announcements are made, and we conclude with an understanding of how we’ve challenged ourselves and how we’ve trained beyond what we previously perceived our bodies could take. Therefore, dismissal occurs only after a loud, simultaneous cheer of “Chazak!” (Be strong!)
